The 4th Annual Celebration of Seagrove Potters is next
week, November 18 – 20. Seagrove area potters have been
working for months in preparation for the big event. This
year’s Celebration will feature 62 Seagrove area pottery
shops and more than 100 authentic Seagrove artists.
The Celebration, held in the historic Luck’s Cannery on
N.C. Highway 705 in Seagrove, is one of the biggest
pottery events in North Carolina. Approximately 5,000
people visit each year throughout the weekend. The
Friday
Night Gala, on November 18th, is unique to the
Celebration. Gala ticket holders have the opportunity to
preview all the pottery available and to be first in line
to purchase. Additionally, they enjoy live jazz music and
meet and greet with potters during the catered reception.
The
collaborative auction is one of the most exciting
aspects of the Gala. The auction offers the rare
opportunity to bid on special pots created by two or more
potters working together. These one-of-a-kind pots
showcase each potter's talent. Some potters began work on
these pieces as early as June.
Potters are energized and working together to make this
year's collaborative auction the best yet! November's Gala
will see some of the largest and finest collaborative pots
ever donated. This year nearly everyone participating in
the unique Gala auction has worked with one or more local
potters to produce something for the Gala auction,
creating one of the most diverse and rare collection of
pots ever available. These pots are highly collectible.
For a preview of what will be available during the Gala
auction, visit
www.CelebrationOfSeagrovePotters.com. The
Celebration of Seagrove Potters can also be followed on
Facebook. Potters regularly post updates and photos of
what they have been working on to get ready for the big
event.
The Celebration continues November 19th, from 9 a.m. to 6
p.m., and November 20th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
visitors will have the opportunity to bid on special pots
donated for the silent auction, which takes place from 1
p.m. to 3 p.m.
Potters will demonstrate throughout the weekend event. The
Seagrove pottery tradition dates back more than 200 years.
Children are encouraged to attend the event. Two special
booths are designed specifically for children. In one
booth, children will have the opportunity to explore their
creativity and learn about the pottery process with
hands-on clay activities. The other booth features wares
donated by participating potters that only children will
be allowed to purchase. All of the pots in this booth will
be priced from $1 to $5. Proceeds will go to benefit art
programs in local schools.
Gala and event ticket information can be found at
www.CelebrationOfSeagovePotters.com. Tickets
for the Gala are $40. The Gala ticket price also includes
Saturday and Sunday admission to the Celebration. Event
tickets can be purchased at the door for $5, with children
12 and under admitted free.
